Status update, September 2022

Welcome to this month’s status update. There are quite a few things to write about, but so little time. On Thursday, I had the honor to publish the What’s cooking on SourceHut post. As you can see there, I have to get ready for a little trip!

Luckily, I have already written about makeimg and re2hare, so I’ll just refer you to those posts for that.

I also had my first not-totally-trivial patch merged into Hare. I am still very much learning, but the language is definitely growing on me.

In other Hare news, I just published hare-tftp, which is exactly what it sounds like. It is not exactly in good shape at the moment, but you can download a file with the client. I am still trying out some things. The goal is to have a server and a client and a library which can be used with BYOE (bring your own event loop).

I also just pushed another project that still needs some polishing (but does do a pretty decent job otherwise). I’ll write a dedicated post it for it very soon, but the gist is: after exploring several other options for generating HTML versions of my projects’ man pages, I found one of the more attractive options to be to modify scdoc to output HTML instead of roff.

Enter scd2html. It’s based on scdoc and that’s even what the executable is still called. You can see some results in action here: scdoc(1), scdoc(5), vsync(1). More details and explanations forthcoming.

This is all for now - time to prepare for some serious server installation! As always, don’t hesitate to send questions or comments to my public inbox!
